The FCS Summer Concert 2023 is coming soon! Come and join the fun!
The spectacular fanfare trumpets of Avon Brass open our concert on Saturday June 10th in Fordingbridge. In a programme of ‘something for everyone’, we have an eclectic mix of music from Finzi and Britten, to George Shearing and Joseph Horovitz, the latter being his ‘Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo‘, described as a Children’s Cantata. With lyrics by Michael Flanders it tells of the story of the flood in a very upbeat and entertaining style suitable for all ages!
George Shearing’s Songs and Sonnets of Shakespeare are equally entertaining in a light jazz style from this great British jazz pianist, probably best known for his Lullaby of Birdland. As the title suggests, words by William Shakespeare from Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music.
One of Gerald Finzi’s most popular church anthems God is Gone Up begins our programme, and an extraordinary work by Benjamin Britten – Rejoice in the Lamb – completes the programme, this being a setting of remarkable words by Christopher Smart, an C18th poet whose genius and unstable mind were closely intertwined.
